About BA Control Board

How to Use the Control Board

Adding a New Entry:

  • Enter the firefighter's name
  • Select the team number (1-20) - this groups firefighters working together
  • Input the current cylinder pressure in bar
  • Add any relevant comments
  • Choose to either "Add Entry" (for immediate entry) or "Stage Entry" (to prepare crew for later entry)

Team Management:

  • Multiple firefighters can be assigned to the same team number (e.g., both "John" and "Sarah" can be assigned to Team 1)
  • Team members are grouped together in the display for easy monitoring
  • The system automatically prioritizes teams based on their most critical member's status
  • Teams are sorted by their highest priority member - if one team member reaches whistle time, the entire team is flagged for recall
  • This ensures teams stay together and the weakest link determines when the team should exit

Managing Staged Crews:

  • Staged entries appear in a separate section and are not actively monitored
  • When a staged crew is ready to enter, click "Enter" - this sets their entry time to now and begins active monitoring
  • This allows you to prepare multiple crews in advance and activate them when they actually enter the hazardous area

Monitoring Air Supply:

  • The system automatically calculates air depletion time based on pressure
  • Countdown timers show time remaining until whistle time (6 minutes before empty)
  • Entries turn red and show "OVERDUE" when past their calculated empty time
  • Audio alerts notify when entries become overdue
  • Click on any active operator row to update their current pressure and comments during radio checks
  • Updating pressure automatically recalculates exit times based on current air consumption

Additional Features:

  • Download operational history in CSV or PDF format
  • Clear all entries when operations are complete

Safety Features

  • Visual Alerts: Overdue entries are highlighted in red
  • Audio Notifications: Sound alerts for overdue conditions
  • Real-time Monitoring: Countdown timers update every second
  • Pressure-based Calculations: Accurate air supply estimations
  • Whistle Time Warning: 6-minute safety buffer before calculated empty time

Understanding the Display

  • Entry Time: When the firefighter entered the hazardous area
  • Pressure: Current cylinder pressure in bar
  • Minutes to Empty: Calculated air supply duration
  • Whistle Time: Time when safety signal should be given
  • Time Remaining: Countdown to whistle time (MM:SS format)

Data Source

Air supply calculations are based on the CFA BA Control Board reference data for 300 bar cylinders:

  • 300 bar: 34 minutes to empty (Working)
  • 250 bar: 28 minutes to empty (Reassess)
  • 150 bar: 17 minutes to empty (Reassess)
  • 100 bar: 11 minutes to empty (Action)
  • 55 bar: 5 minutes to empty (Whistle)

Time of Whistle = Time wearer enters plus minutes to empty minus 6 minutes

Whistle time is calculated as 6 minutes before the projected empty time, following CFA protocols.
